We will be geologists for two weeks. We learn that rocks are made of minerals, a solid substance that forms inside the earth. The earth's crust is made of rock, and most of the inside of Earth is made of rock too.  This week we will discuss two types of rocks: igneous (melted rock that has cooled), and sedimentary (bits and pieces of rock and debris pressed together and formed under pressure over time). We examine some rock samples, and in the classroom we will "create" our own versions of igneous and sedimentary rocks.

For snack, we mix and eat "sedimentary rock" crispy rice treats, which somewhat illustrate the process through which sedimentary rock is formed. Delicious!
