Human Body - Digestive System/Brain Games

Well I am excited to see what has been growing in those petri dishes for a week. We usually get some really hairy looking results from the children collecting germs around the room and touching the dish. It is such a great visual for the children to realize the importance of hand washing and bathing. Now we will look at the food we eat with those clean hands, and what
happens to it in our bodies.

We start with a book about eating a hamburger and what happens to it in our bodies. The children will draw a life-size drawing of themselves and then we will work on putting down the
major organs that are used in the digestive system so they can really see how it all works.
We love playing the digestive game where the children stand in two rows and represent the organs of the system. Someone represents the hamburger and the children chew him, swallow, go through the stomache, add liver enzymes, down the intestines, and yes they flush that kid down the toliet. It is hilarious to watch but provides the vital hands on learning that works so well with this age group.

We will have a sour treat for them to suck on and notice just how much saliva plays a role in the food process. If we have the time in the room, there is another fun game we will try, where one child is the brain and tells the other child who is the body, how to move or what to do.

Please, we still need about 11 pringles cans to get ready for space unit. So if y'all snack on a pringles while on spring break, please bring us the can. Hope everyone has a fun and relaxing Spring Break.
